FAQ
The answers to questions you most frequently ask us are found in this section.
Where is the jewelry made? We carry some items sourced here in the USA, and a few chains made in Italy. Currently most of the jewelry is made in Asia: sterling silver items from Thailand and India, and the bulk of the non-silver items from China, all countries with an extensive jewelry-making infrastructure as well as a long tradition of jewelry craftsmanship.
Do you offer a warranty? From our merchandise warranty: "Every item we sell, except watches, is guaranteed against manufacturing defects, as delivered to you ..." "Defective merchandise merchandise must be returned at your expense within ten (10) days of receipt for exchange or credit only." In other words, if a product arrives damaged as delivered to you, we shall replace or credit it, at our discretion. However, the warranty does not extend to the end user; therefore, no used merchandise may be returned. Other than as stated in the merchandise warranty, all sales are final.
Update: Effective 7/14/14: Although we check every watch to make sure it is working before we ship it, watches are not guaranteed and non-returnable.
What are the alternative metals offered and what are they made of ? BR - brass or bronze, primarily made from copper. Yes, due to the copper content, brass can sometimes leave a mark on your finger. The ring can be clear-coated on the inside with clear nail polish, or alternative clear-coat, which will prevent the mark until the clear coat wears off. Brass tarnishes but can be polished with a brass polish.; SP - silver plate, usually over brass, but sometimes over white bronze or white metal. Silver plate, because the plate itself is usually 100% silver, looks brighter than sterling silver. Typically, silver plate does not discolor, although we would not recommend washing dishes or gardening, etc. while wearing a silver plated piece. Although the plate can eventually wear off, our plating is thick enough that that shouldn't happen for years, unless the piece is abused. Typically, we are not oxidizing silver plate items; WB - white bronze, is generally composed of brass, zinc and tin, although the alloys vary factory to factory. Sometimes trace amounts of silver are added, usually not over .5%, and indium may be included, as well. White bronze looks like oxidized silver, and will tarnish. It can be polished with a silver cloth and is very durable; WM - our catch-all term for any other metallurgy, usually the basest grade of white metals - typically a zinc alloy, sometimes zinc-plated brass, sometimes rhodium-plated zinc; ST (SR for rings) - steel, which for our rings, earrings and bracelets is stainless steel. In body jewelry, the steel is typically 316L surgical steel. Stainless steel jewelry almost never discolors; GP - gold plate, which can be plated over nearly anything. If over sterling silver, it is called vermeil. The nose pins with GP will be over sterling silver, most other GP items will be GP over brass, base metal or stainless steel. AL- aluminum (in one design only).
Sterling silver has no prefix or suffix code, other than stone codes, because it is the default metal. Sterling silver tarnishes, but will polish up with a silver cloth or silver dip (read directions carefully if using a silver dip). Occasionally we might term it "SS," for convenience. We have also introduced karat gold, currently in 14K nose pins. Gold is the king of classic metals; it does not tarnish. Highest value by weight of any metal we offer.

How can I be assured that your sterling silver is minimum 92.5% pure ? Although many people look for a "925" stamp, and somehow feel reassured when they see it that the item is sterling silver, that is actually the least reliable way to determine if the item is sterling silver, since some unscrupulous factories will, and do, stamp nearly anything "925." However, you can test silver to see if it meets the standard for 92.5% purity, and, with experience, you can tell by coloration as well as by specific gravity that an item is sterling silver. And finally, if you know your source is trustworthy, you can be assured that the items meet the standard.
